sailATX

sailATX was founded in 2015 to share the skill and joy of sailing with others in Central Texas.  In a world that's too fast and overloaded with information, we believe the unique connection to nature through sailing is a fulfilling and exciting adventure.  We hope you'll join us and find out too.

Connetion

Steve Ward, Owner / Chief Sails Officer
Steve grew up around sailing in New Orleans in the ’80s.  His father, Pat Ward, inspired Steve to learn and enjoy sailing.

Bringing Others On Board
In the mid-90s Steve moved to Austin and began crewing and renting boats on Lake Travis.  Around that time he traveled to the British Virgin Islands for his first blue water sailing experience – and fell in love with it! Later he started leading groups in the Bahamas, the BVI and Puerto Rico.

Boat School
To extend his skills Steve attended the Chapman School of Seamanship in Stuart, Florida.  At Chapman he was valedictorian in the Professional Mariner Training program and passed the US Coast Guard exam.

Steve also writes a sailing blog (sailwithsteve.com) and is an active member of the Austin Yacht Club where he volunteers in sail training and as a coach for youth sailing.  He has owned several boats on Lake Travis and has crewed for many years in Austin Yacht Club races and regattas.

Steve is a certified instructor with both US Sailing and American Sailing Association (ASA).

Kent Sick

Kent is a longtime fan of sailing, having sailed and raced in Galveston Bay and along the coast of Texas in the Gulf Of Mexico.

Kent has owned and sailed many boats over the years on Lake Travis.  After decades of sailing experience Kent recently earned a US Coast Guard Master's License (captain's license).

Kent is also a practicing lawyer in Texas!

Trey England

Trey is an avid sailor and loves to get out on his kite board to carve up the waters of Lake Travis.

After a career in high tech Trey recently retired and has started a business working on boats and diving.

Trey completed requirements for a Coast Guard license and is anticipating receiving his official "ticket" soon.
